Manhattan Takes The Muppets

Welcome friends!

I suppose you read that story in the newspapers about a month or so ago about the Wall Street executive who resigned his job in disgust and then wrote an opinion piece about it for the New York Times?  Pretty interesting stuff.  And the general public reaction to the story was interesting as well, particularly given the battle being waged by US conservatives to prevent any improvements or changes in how we regulate the financial industry in this country.

The basic story this time concerns Greg Smith, an executive director at Wall Street heavy hitter Goldman Sachs... Stand Yer Ground

A few weeks back I wrote a little piece on racism (March 20, 2012), so I thought I might as well follow up with a few thoughts on a case that has been in all the papers recently involving a white guy (or maybe he was Hispanic but anyway that generally counts as “white” these days in the US) who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager in the US state of Florida.  In addition to the racism angle the story is interesting to me because it also touches on the issue of gun rights and what I see as some general characteristics of conservatism in the US...
